TICKET & PROGRAMS INFO HERE

For its 2014-15 Salon Series, the Cypress String Quartet explores the Early and Middle String Quartets of Beethoven, showcasing a selection from each period on each program in unique pairings with stunning night-themed works by later composers: For the October 2014 program, the Cypress will be joined by SF Symphony principal violist Jonathan Vinocour and SF Conservatory faculty cellist Jean-Michel Fonteneau for Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night string sextet. In February, the third work on the program will be Jeffery Cotton’s gorgeous Serenade, and in May it will be Ligeti’s String Quartet No.1. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to enjoy Cypress performances in intimate venues and to experience chamber music in its purest form.

CALL AND RESPONSE

Featuring the World Premiere of String Quartet No.6 by George Tsontakis, the 15th Annual C&R program took place on March 14th, 2014 at the Marines Memorial Theatre in San Francisco. George’s earlier String Quartet No.5 was also commissioned by the Cypress, for Call & Response 2006. This 15th Annual Call & Response concert included as the ‘call’ for George’s ‘response:’ Schubert’s seminal String Quartet No.15 in G Major along two masterpieces by Webern – his ultra-romantic Langsamersatz and the contrasting Five Movements for String Quartet.

In 2015 we will hear the World Premiere of a new String Quartet by Philippe Hersant, responding this season to the pairing of Beethoven’s Op.59 No.2 and Bartok’s String Quartet No.4. The program’s connecting theme is “night.”
